Dr Ray Shakman
The Skill of a Surgeon. The Care of a Family Doctor.
When you need a lump or bump removed, you want two things: the technical perfection of a specialist surgeon and the reassuring, unhurried bedside manner of a family doctor. Dr Shakman built Surgica Medical to give you exactly that.

From Specialist Surgery to Holistic Care
Dr Shakman’s career is defined by a relentless pursuit of clinical excellence. He trained extensively as a specialist, achieving the Jordanian Board of Surgery (JBS). Spending years honing his skills in minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, he developed the strict discipline
and high-fidelity precision required in high-stakes hospital theatres.

However, he realised that flawless surgical technique is only half the cure.
Wanting to see the whole patient rather than just the pathology, he transitioned into General Practice, earning his Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). This rare combination allows him to bring advanced, hospital-grade surgical skills into a calm,
supportive, and private community clinic.

Areas of Special Interest
Whilst Dr Shakman provides a broad range of minor surgical and private GP services, he has a particular clinical interest in three areas: digestive and abdominal health, skin conditions and surgical dermatology, and cosmetic procedures.

His background in gastrointestinal surgery gives him a depth of insight into digestive pathology that goes well beyond a standard GP consultation. For patients experiencing symptoms such as reflux, abdominal pain, IBS, bowel habit changes or hernia concerns, Dr Shakman is able to assess, investigate and advise with the precision of a surgeon and the accessibility of a family doctor.

His surgical training also informs his approach to skin — from the careful excision of cysts, lipomas and moles through to cosmetic procedures designed to achieve the finest possible aesthetic outcome.
Beyond the Clinic
"Whilst I take immense pride in surgical precision, my true satisfaction comes from simply being there for my patients—whether that is performing a delicate procedure or just having a reassuring chat to put your mind at ease."
That deep sense of care is rooted in family. Dr Shakman’s drive is fuelled by his wife, Tatiana, his unwavering support system, and his son, Nart, who is his compass and daily purpose.

Standing on the foundation of warmth and protection built by his parents, Sam and Nancy, it is exactly this family-centred compassion that he strives to bring into the clinic for every single patient.
